To my students' Parents and Guardians:
Welcome!
I am so glad that you are looking at this website. My intention in developing this is to facilitate communication and understanding between the classroom and home. This school year I am very excited to be your child’s teacher. I am looking forward to helping each child grow academically and socially.
This year is my second decade of teaching. (Time flies when you love what you do.) I have previously taught pre-K through 12th grade. I love being a teacher and am looking forward to continuing in this profession with your child!
During the year we will be discussing West Side Middle School School Expectations. These Guidelines, known as the Warrior Way, apply to all areas of the school and will help your child be aware of what is expected at all times.
They are: Work Hard, Show Responsibility, Maintain Respect, and Stay in Control
We will talk about what each means and what they look like in practice. We will continue to discuss how each applies to all areas of the school such as the cafeteria, hallways, outside and inside the building. We will also be discussing the importance of attendance...being in school every day makes your student's learning easier; it allows us to help your child in every way possible and support their learning.
I always encourage parents to read to their child as much as possible during the year. The more the student experiences looking at and hearing books, the more they will understand the concept of print - letters make words, there’s a beginning sound to words they can begin to recognize, books are looked at from left to right, there’s a cover and title page, and MUCH more! Even children that are readers love being read to; the benefit is they hear fluent reading.
Please don’t hesitate to email or call if you have a question or concern. I correspond with parents via email and text often, so if you have an email address you check regularly, I would love to email this website home and save paper. Please feel free to use all the contact resources that I have provided...I am hoping this will facilitate continued contact with you. I value building a partnership between the classroom, the school and home; and welcome parent communication.
Sincerely,
Ms. Karen S. Paparello-Piotrowski
